This project involves the removal of an existing 1930’s built 4 bedroom family house and a radical rethink of this amazing site to optimise it for modern use.
The site itself is located in the historic Silverhill farm area of Hastings and is set in woodland on Tunbridge Wells sandstone. A small river runs through the site with a beautiful waterfall cascading over a sandstone outcrop.
An initial feasibility study and topographical study of the site determined the optimum position for the new building and the master plan for the site responds to key views and the internal privacy of the building itself.
The concept for the building is born out of the understanding that the beauty of the natural site is key and the building should fly above the site to preserve the long views and the essence of the meadows and water fall that surround it. Every room to the West has views of the waterfall or the forest beyond. The basement to the building has a swimming pool which illuminates the belly of the building in the evening to make the most of the flying structures.
